What you are actually playing

Margin Call is a free stock market and business simulator that runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no download, no payment and no real money — it is a simulation, not a brokerage. A run covers five years of a simulated economy across seven asset classes: stocks, options, crypto, bonds, forex, prediction markets and the company you found yourself.

Prices are simulated, not scripted

Each of the 108 companies is priced as a fair value — earnings against a multiple that moves with rates and sector conditions — multiplied by a mispricing that mean-reverts under herding, order flow and GARCH volatility. Orders execute against a central limit order book with price-time priority, so a large order pays slippage by eating through the depth that is actually displayed.

The economy moves underneath you

Inflation follows a Phillips curve, unemployment an Okun relationship, and the central bank sets rates on a Taylor rule over Weibull business cycles. Those rates reach company earnings through debt service, so a hiking cycle shows up in the earnings of leveraged names rather than staying on the economics page. Correlations rise when volatility spikes, which is when diversification stops helping.

Trading is one of several careers

You can found a company, hire into it, run R&D, raise venture rounds and take it public. You can launch a hedge fund with outside investors, build a stake large enough to force a proxy fight, lobby for legislation that moves a whole sector, or buy property that pays rent. Rival AI traders — five to ten of them depending on difficulty — are working the same market.

New to this? The guides explain the mechanics from scratch, help covers the controls, and about sets out what is simulated and what is not.
